Ted Salansky

Ted Salansky, 92, of Gatlinburg, TN, entered the Gates of Eternity on February 19th, 2024. Ted was born on December 6th, 1931, in Canonsburg, PA. The youngest of 14, with 7 brothers and 6 sisters, all of whom have preceded him in death. His parents were immigrants from Ukraine in the early 1900s. He worked hard on the family farm until following his older brother to Detroit, MI. He was then drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War. He loved to sing and play the trumpet and tuba in high school and in the Army band. He even performed TAPS for his unit at night. After the Korean War, he went to engineering school on the GI Bill and became a draftsman at General Motors in Die Engineering. He tragically lost his wife (Thelma Gross) after 3 years of marriage. Two years later, he met Eva in the choir at Grosse Point Baptist Church in Michigan.

Ted always dreamed of owning his own business, and his young family left big business and the big city life of Detroit behind, moving to Gatlinburg, TN, where they ventured into the motel business in 1971. They retired from the motel business in 1994 and moved to Morristown, TN. They lived in Morristown, helping to raise grandchildren for 20 years, and were members of Manley Baptist Church. They never lost touch with Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. Ted and Eva returned to Gatlinburg in 2017 for their final retirement.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Eva Salansky.

Sons: Jeff Salansky of Maryville, TN; Gary Salansky (Debra) of Morristown; and Greg Salansky (Dr. Renee) of Sevierville.

Grandchildren: Dr. Garrett Salansky (Anna Caryl) of Morristown; Matthew Salansky of Knoxville; Olivia-Maria Salansky of Nashville.
