James Alton Milligan of Sevierville, Tennessee formally of Tuscaloosa, Alabama gained his Heavenly wings on July 7, 2025. He was born on July 21, 1944 in Smithville, Mississippi the second of eight children. He lived most of his life between Mississippi and Alabama. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was known by many names but the one he cherished the most was “Papaw”. He loved being outside. He was either watching the birds or planting flowers. He loved listening to the blues and classic country music.
He is predeceased by his parents, Archie G. and Etta Mae Milligan.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda. Son, Alton Cody Milligan. Daughters, Lachercia L. Jones and Stephanie (Jim) Greene and Granddaughter, Savanna Hope Greene.
Brothers, Herbert, Doug, Harold and Frank Milligan all of Alabama. Sisters, Donnie Mae Cole, Carolyn Hartley (Lawrence) and Glenda Scrivner, all of Alabama. As well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Knoxville, Tennessee. Internment will immediately follow the service.
