Daniel Edward Rohen, 1954-2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Dan Rohen announces his passing on August 17, 2025. Dan will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Jeanne (Dirk) Huybrechts, Shirley (Dale) Cox, and Marilyn Harris (Bob Harris); by his nieces and nephews (Christopher, Catherine, Kevin, Sarah, Kyle and Carly), and by many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and long-time friends. Dan was predeceased by his father Robert Rohen, mother Rita Rohen, and two brothers, Thomas and Michael.
Dan was born on September 21, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio, the fourth of six Rohen children. The family later moved to a Michigan house on the Lake Erie shore, and it was there that Dan became an outstanding swimmer, a skill he later used as an ocean life guard, and a hobby that he continued to enjoy throughout his life. After graduating from Monroe (MI) High School, he trained to become an airplane mechanic at the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Dan learned to fly an airplane before he learned to drive a car! But he loved all types of motor vehicles, whether putting a new engine in an old car or watching racing cars on a track. Dan almost always owned a motorcycle and cherished the freedom of an open-air bike ride.
Dan moved to Florida as a young adult, worked as an airplane mechanic for many years, then in the construction trades. He was curious about other cultures which led to travels to several countries in Europe and Asia – Japan, Nepal, The Netherlands, and Pakistan, among them.
Dan was never without a pet dog or two. Fittingly, Leo, his Rottweiler and constant companion, was with him when he passed.
No summary of Dan’s life would be complete without mentioning that he was fun and funny and a joyful prankster who loved to pass along a bawdy joke or good story. His nieces and nephews loved his pranks and playfulness. Everyone who knew him loved his good humor, empathy, and kindness.
Following his wishes, Dan’s remains will be scattered at a favorite scenic location near his home in Tennessee. If you would like to communicate with Dan’s family or share your memories, feel free to reach out to his sister Shirley Cox at shirleycox52@hotmail.com
